What is UWILD?

UWILD — Underwater Inspection in Lieu of Dry-Docking — is a class-witnessed underwater survey that replaces an intermediate or alternative dry-docking inspection. It allows owners to extend the docking interval typically from 5 to 7.5 years, saving 7-figure dock costs and avoiding 2–4 weeks of off-hire time. Most major class societies (ABS, BV, DNV, LR, NK, IRS) accept UWILD subject to vessel age, condition history and notation eligibility.

When can your vessel use UWILD?

  • Vessel has the relevant class notation (BIS, IWS or equivalent)
  • Hull and machinery condition history is in good standing
  • Last dry-docking inspection was satisfactory
  • The class surveyor agrees to attend the underwater survey
  • The dive contractor is class-approved (which we are)

Our UWILD Process

  1. Class liaison — we coordinate with your appointed class surveyor on scope, anchorage and dates
  2. Pre-survey cleaning — selective hull cleaning at sea-chest intakes, anodes and propeller for visibility
  3. Class-witnessed dive — full hull, sea chests, anodes, propeller, rudder pintle, tail-shaft clearances — all on real-time video to surface and the surveyor
  4. Measurements — tail-shaft and rudder pintle clearances, sea-chest grating condition, anode wastage
  5. Class-format report — photographs, video, witness signatures, condition rating, recommended actions
